“Cinephone” is a series of gelatin silver photographs, with each one consisting of 24 pictures shot on a single roll of 35 mm film. Before shooting, I found payphone scenes from movies and selected a sentence or two from the payphone conversations to transcribe via the International Phonetic Alphabet. I divided the transcribed sentences into 24 segments, which were later laser printed and individually mounted to black mat boards. Each board was then photographed in a payphone booth with diffused natural light accordingly to have the sentence legible from the top left to the bottom right in one image.
